Police probe launched as ‘man in hospital after attack’

A man in his 50s is in hospital after being allegedly attacked. The man was injured when he was reportedly assaulted in Tile Cross Road[1], Birmingham, today (May 24).

The incident prompted a huge 999 presence in the area, near the road's junction with Cooks Lane. Police sealed off the street - which is on the border with Solihull[2] - in both directions.

Officers have since detained one man in connection with the alleged assault. He remained in custody for questioning this evening.

A West Midlands Police[4] spokesman said: "We have arrested a man following an assault on Tile Cross Road[5] at around 12.30pm today. A 24-year-old man is currently in custody and a man in his 50s has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

"Our investigation continues and anyone with information has been asked to get in touch with us on 101 or via LiveChat on our website, quoting log number 1928 of May 24." West Midlands Ambulance Service said paramedics came across an injured man near the White Hart pub[6].

A spokesperson said: "An ambulance came across the incident whilst transporting a patient to hospital and a second ambulance was despatched. The patient was treated at the scene and has been taken to hospital."
