Drink driver crashes with HGV while trying to overtake lorry

The smashed up car (Image: Lancs Police) A suspected drink driver crashed with an HGV after trying to overtake another lorry. The incident happened on Eastway in Preston on Friday night (May 5) when the driver of a Peugeot attempted to overtake an HGV, say police.

In carrying out the manoeuvre, officers say,the driver failed to spot another HGV coming towards him and crashed. Police said the driver failed to stop and was found nearby and arrested on suspicion of drink driving.

A spokesperson for the police said: "Driver of this Peugeot in Preston tried to overtake a HGV on Eastway. "They didn't see another HGV coming the other way. "Driver failed to stop but was found nearby still in the driver's seat.

Following the crash, the road was closed and remained so this morning (May 6).

At around 6am recovery was still ongoing and a clean up in progress.

The closure is the B6241 (Eastway) between the roundabouts at Pittman Way (Asda) and the B6242 Andertons Way.
