Person dies after being hit by train between Ely and Norwich …

A person has died after being hit by a train on Thursday morning (April 13). Officers from the British Transport Police (BTP) and paramedics were called to the scene at around 10.12am. Emergency services had received reports of a casualty on the tracks in Suton in Norfolk.

Nothing could be done to save the person and they have been pronounced dead at the scene. BTP has said the incident is not being treated as suspicious and that they will now work on preparing a file for the coroner. The incident has caused several issues on train services throughout the morning.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: "Officers were called to the line in Suton at 10.12am following reports of a casualty on the tracks. Paramedics also attended however sadly a person has been pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are now working to identify the person and inform their family.

The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner." Greater Anglia and East Midlands Railway train services are affected by the incident. Services between Norwich and Cambridge have been cancelled and rail replacement buses were brought in to help people complete their journeys.

Emergency services remain on the scene and trains running between Ely and Norwich may be cancelled, delayed or revised. Disruption is expected until later this afternoon. A National Rail spokesperson said: "A person has been hit by a train between Norwich and Thetford and as a result, whilst the emergency services carry out their work, lines are closed.

Trains will be cancelled or revised.

Disruption is expected until 1.30pm."
