New Street train driver job advertised with amazing perks

West Midlands Trains is looking for a train driver in Birmingham - and the role comes with some great perks. The train operating company is looking for an experienced driver who can "prepare, shunt and dispose of trains as required" at its Tyseley Engineering Depot in New Street. The applicant who ends up getting the job, which has a salary of just over GBP57k, can expect perks such as free travel, discounts and opportunities to gain further qualifications.

West Midlands Railway, which has services running to several destinations across the Black Country[1] and Worcestershire[2], says applicants should have considerable experience of driving on Network Rail infrastructure and hold an ETDL license. The job advert reads: "We are currently looking for qualified train drivers to join us at our Tyseley Engineering Depot (part of Birmingham New Street). Our drivers play a key role in the safe and smooth running of our service and are committed to providing excellent service to all passengers.

"You will be required to prepare, shunt and dispose of trains as required within the confines of Tyseley Engineering Depot. We would require our applicants to have considerable experience of driving on Network Rail infrastructure and have their competence gained or continued within the previous 5 years. "We would also require all applicants to give their consent to the disclosure of any previous employment and safety performance from previous employers.

All applicants must hold an ETDL license. "In addition to a competitive salary, West Midlands Trains offer a wealth of benefits including free travel on West Midlands Trains and Abellio services for you, your partner and dependant children; 75 per cent discount on all other train travel over most of the UK rail network; and development opportunities to help you further your career with West Midlands Trains, including the opportunity to gain nationally recognised qualifications." The closing date to apply is May 31.
