Lorry driver who died after his HGV hit bridge near Selby is named

A driver who died when his car transporter hit a bridge on the M62 near Selby has been named. He was Samuel Allen, 31. Mr Allen died on 11 October 2022, in the collision with the bridge at Beal Lane on the M62 westbound near junction 34 (A19 Selby).

The crash closed the M62[1] in both directions as emergency services worked at the scene.

Opening his inquest in Northallerton today (Friday), York and North Yorkshire assistant coroner Alison Norton said Mr Allen was driving on the M62 when his vehicle left the road and collided with a bridge parapet. Mr Allen was confirmed dead at the scene. The provisional cause of death was given as a fractured pelvis and internal haemorrhage.

Mr Allen, who lived in Doncaster, was identified by his father on 13 October.

Mrs Norton adjourned the hearing.

A full inquest will be held at a date to be fixed.
