2 walking by road killed in twin accidents, 6 hours apart in Gurgaon …

GURGAON: Two men walking by the side of the road were knocked down by vehicles in Bilaspur area of the city, just six hours apart.A truck driver walking towards a transport office after dinner at a dhaba died on the spot after being hit by a lorry from behind around 11.30pm on Friday. A private firm worker walking home after night shift was mowed down by an SUV around 5.30am on Saturday.Originally from Indira Nagar in Uttarakhand, Saveer worked for a transport company in Bilaspur as a truck driver. He had had a meal at a dhaba and had just reached near a toll plaza close to his office when a truck crashed into him from behind and fled the spot.Saveer, his brother Javed said, was thrown in the air and landed on another side of the road.

He suffered grievous injuries to the head. Passersby rushed him to a government hospital in Sector 10, where doctors declared him dead on arrival."My brother was just walking by the side of the road when he was knocked down. Tell me, was he at fault?

He was the victim of reckless driving," Javed told TOI.Following a complaint by him, a case was registered against unknown persons under sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (death in accident) of the IPC at Bilaspur police station.Just six hours later, Sanjeev was walking home to Bhorakala village with his colleague Hemant when an SUV rammed him from behind and sped away. He died before he could be wheeled into the emergency ward."We were returning home after night shift when a white SUV hit him. I was thrown to the side of the road under the impact.

But he suffered grievous injuries and could not be revived," Hemant said, adding that he could not note down the registration number of the SUV in the darkness.A case was lodged at the Bilaspur police station under the same IPC sections.Police said they were scanning CCTV footage to identify the vehicles. Till Saturday evening, no arrest had been made."No one could note down the registration numbers of the vehicles. We are trying to identify the vehicles and their drivers," said Subhash Boken, a spokesperson for Gurgaon police.The death of pedestrians in road accidents is not uncommon in the city.

Walkers account for every third fatal crash here. In 2022, the city reported 1,040 accidents in which 404 people died and 886 suffered injuries. Of these 404 who died, 137 were pedestrians.On February 1, a schoolbus driver was crushed to death near IFFCO Chowk.

The man was hit by a vehicle while crossing the road near the U-turn flyover and dragged for a few metres.

His body was mangled beyond recognition.
