Long queues of traffic after horror crash on M6 last night

Part of the M6 is still closed this morning after a fatal crash in the night.

Lancashire Police said officers were called to Junction 28 Southbound at 1am after a serious incident between a car and a lorry.

It happened between J28 on Leyland Way and J27 Crow Orchard Road in Standish.

Drivers coming into Manchester this morning have been warned to expect delays of up to 30 minutes and queues back to J29 in Lostock Hall.

Writing on Twitter, Transport for Greater Manchester said: “Additional delays along the M61 towards Manchester and the M60 this morning due to traffic diverting from the S/B closure of the M6 at J28 Leyland after a fatal incident overnight.”

Highways England said the road could be closed until 2pm and police officers are still at the scene investigating what happened.
