Air Canada has removed confusing messaging implying Canada’s ban on direct passenger flights from India will be lifted next month.

Posted Tuesday to the airline’s online COVID-19 information hub, the post stated that flights between Delhi and Canada — banned since April 22 — would resume to both Toronto and Vancouver. “We are pleased to announce that flights to Delhi are returning on August 19 from Toronto, August 21 from Vancouver and August 22 from Delhi,” said the now-deleted post.

A now-deleted post on Air Canada’s website falsely stating Canada’s flight ban with India will expire in August.

On Monday, Transport Canada added another 30 day extension to their NOTAM (Notice of Airmen) issued April 22 banning passenger planes from this country, an attempt to stem large numbers of infected passengers on the four-daily flights from Delhi.

Canadians, permanent residents and those otherwise permitted to travel to Canada from India must do so via indirect flights, and must present a negative PCR COVID-19 test performed at their last port of entry before flying to Canada. Forty-nine flights from Delhi landed in Canada carrying passengers infected with COVID-19 between April 1 and when the ban was put into place on April 22.

Inquires to Transport Canada and the office of federal Transport Minister Omar Alghabra regarding Air Canada’s post were instead directed to the Health Minister.

A statement emailed to the Sun by Air Canada media relations said their Delhi flights will resume only when the restrictions are lifted by Ottawa, and that the information on their site has been changed to reflect that.
