Driver left seriously hurt after three-lorry crash on M1
This was the scene which caused a three-hour shutdown of the M1 in Derbyshire on Friday.
Police say one of the lorry drivers involved was seriously hurt but, thankfully, their condition is not life-threatening.
The crash caused significant delays with the northbound section of the motorway between Junction 28 for Matlock and Junction 29 for Chesterfield being closed for a number of hours due to the nature of the crash.
For large parts of the afternoon the crash caused stationary queues of at least ten miles.
A statement from Derbyshire police at the time said: “One of the drivers was left with serious, but not believed to be life-threatening, injuries.
The motorway reopened at around 5pm – more than three hours after the crash happened.
A tweet from Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said: “M1 J29 North Exit Slip.
“Serious but not life threatening injury to the driver of this lorry. Apologies to those caught up in 3 hour tailbacks, the nature of the crash and goods carried on vehicles involved meant the road was completely shut for a long time.”
