20 miles of M25 queues as serious crash causes traffic chaos in Herts
There are now 21 miles of stationary queues on the M25 after a serious crash involving three vehicles completely shut the road.
The road remains closed heading anticlockwise near junction 26 for Waltham Abbey, Essex, and has been shut since around 3.30pm today (Tuesday, June 1) after a vehicle reportedly crossed the central reservation.
One of four lanes heading clockwise is also shut to allow for recovery work to take place.
Although traffic is now moving between Hertfordshire and the scene of the incident, queues are still back as far as junction 24 for Potters Bar and drivers are facing long delays.
Queues for drivers heading towards Herts from Essex are at a standstill for around 11 miles, back as far as junction 28 for the A12 at Brentwood.
Traffic cameras at the scene show multiple fire crews and police vehicles in attendance dealing with the affected vehicles.
The road has been closed from the M11 interchange to junction 25 (Enfield) for diversion purposes.
The full diversion route for drivers heading anticlockwise can be found below, with motorists told to follow the hollow square symbol on road signs:
- Leave the M25 at J27 and join the M11 southbound.
- At J4 leave the M11 and join the A406 westbound.
- Take the third exit from the roundabout onto the A10 northbound.
- Re-join the M25 anti-clockwise at J25 via the first exit from the roundabout.
