Online fundraiser set up by family of truck driver killed at Wawa

An online fundraiser has been set up for the truck driver killed Wednesday at a local Wawa.

Ramon Ramirez, 31, was shot and killed Wednesday morning while he was pumping gas at the Wawa at Route 100 and Schantz Road in Upper Macungie Township, authorities said.

The random killing was allegedly carried out by Za Uk Lian, 45, of South Whitehall Township. Lian shot at a woman driving on Route 22 before arriving at the Wawa, prosecutors said. Lian shot a person in a Jeep, and then shot Ramirez, then ran down Route 100 to a daycare center, where he shot and killed himself, authorities said.

Ramirez leaves behind a wife and three children.

An appeal for funds for the family was set up by Muneca Castellanos.

“On April 21, 2021 our very loving family member Ramon Ramirez Jr., a.k.a. Junior, was taken from us unexpectedly. Our hearts are very heavy.

He is survived by his wife and 3 children, his mother and 2 sisters and many other close family and friends,” Castellanos wrote.

An email to Castellanos seeking more information wasn’t immediately answered.

Ramirez was a driver for A.

Duie Pyle.

The message from Castellanos continues:

“While we grieve and try to remember all of the fun and wonderful memories we have with him we are trying to figure out a way to help his surviving immediate family with final expenses along with a little extra to help his wife with the children’s schooling, expenses, etc.

“We appreciate everyone’s concerns, warm wishes, and hopefully we can count on your generosity and prayers during this difficult time.

“Please keep our family in your hearts.”

After 16 hours the site had raised more than £30,000.
