Traffic chaos as two trucks crash in Sydney’s south-west and rescue crews battle to free trapped driver

  • Two-truck crash has caused chaos on Hume Highway in Sydney’s far south-west

A crash between two B-double trucks has caused chaos in Sydney’s far south-west as emergency crews battled to save a trapped 60-year-old driver.

Rescue workers were pictured desperately trying to free the man from his cabin after the crash on the Hume Highway at Mount Annan near Campbelltown at 8.15am on Wednesday. 

He has since been released from the wreckage and airlifted to Liverpool Hospital with minor injuries, a New South Wales Police spokesman said.

A rescue helicopter landed on the closed highway at Mount Annan to airlift the truck driver to Liverpool Hospital (pictured)

The driver of the second truck, a 26-year-old man, did not sustain serious injuries in the collision near Narellan Road. 

The injured driver is believed to have suffered non life-threatening neck and back pain, 9News reported. 

Officers from the Campbelltown Police Area Command, NSW Ambulance paramedics and Fire and Rescue NSW were all called to the scene.

One of the highway’s northbound lanes is still closed approaching Narellan Road following the collision near the Jim Affleck bridge, with motorists urged to allow extra travel time.  

Both northbound and southbound lanes were initially closed temporarily. 

Northbound motorists have been told to use Picton Rd, Remembrance Dr, Camden Bypass and Narellan Rd to return to the Hume Highway.
