Transport truck driver airlifted to hospital after Highway 401 crash

A transport truck driver from Mississauga was airlifted to hospital following a crash that closed Highway 401 for most of Friday. Emergency services were called to the westbound lanes of the highway, just east of the Shannonville Road overpass, at about 10 a.m. The OPP said a tractor-trailer that had been reported to be driving erratically collided with a second tractor-trailer that was parked on the shoulder of the highway.

The driver of the erratically driven truck, a 40-year-old man from Mississauga, suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital by Ornge Air Ambulance. The crash caused both westbound lanes to be closed between Deseronto Road and Shannonville Road for most of Friday. One lane reopened just after 4 p.m.

The Emergency Detour Route was put in place at Deseronto Road, north to Blessington Road, and then south on Shannonville Road and back onto the highway.

"OPP remain on scene and are asking motorists to use caution and have patience as the investigation continues," the OPP said.
