Truck carrying plane gets stuck under bridge in India

Low flying aircraft can sometimes be hazardous for motorists, but one plane in India took things to an extreme.

A truck carrying an abandoned airplane got stuck under a bridge in India's eastern Durgapur city on Tuesday (December 24) after it misjudged the clearance needed to make it through.

The incident took place at around 3 a.m. local time on the National Highway-2 when the India Post plane got wedged under the bridge.

Highway officials blamed a lack of communication as the cause for the blockage.

"When such shipments come, a survey of the road is done and the height of the object is measured to see if the shipment can pass through or not.

But, in this case, it was done at 3:00 at night and no message was sent.

So it got stuck here."

The plane was on its way from eastern Kolkata city and was being taken to Bihar state.

It was later moved from under the bridge after ropes attached to a truck pulled it clear, as locals gathered in the area to watch.
