4 excise squads posted to curb illicit liquor transport

Nashik: The state government's excise department has deployed squads at four locations in the district to curb the transport of illicit liquor in view of the New Year celebrations.
The squads of excise department have been stationed at Trimbak-Jawhar Road, Rajwadi on Peth Road, Varegaon on Saputara road and near Harsul village in Nashik district. "These are the locations where there is a possibility of illicit liquor entering into the district ahead of the New Year celebrations," said an official from the department.
The department has provided a window system at three locations to provide one-day drinking permits for the consumption of liquor on the New Year's eve.

One can also buy the permit online by paying a nominal fee of Rs 5 per head. "Individual drinking permit is mandatory for everyone consuming drinking on 31st December.

Those, who want to consume liquor will have to get one-day drinking permits from the excise department," the official added.
The department has also directed roadside dhabas across the district not to serve drink or allow consumption of drink on the eve of the New Year's eve. "We have taken affidavits from 300 dhabas stating that they will neither serve nor allow consumption of liquor," said the official.
The department has already started taking action and seized illicit liquor worth Rs 5.5 lakh from a vehicle near Harsul village in the district.
